Obituary

Mary Katherine "Kate" Cooley Garrett, age 95, a resident of Middletown, VA passed away Monday, October 26, 2015 at Loving Arms Assisted Living in Front Royal, VA, where she spent the last several years and was cared for dearly. A funeral service for Mrs. Garrett will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Friday, October 30, 2015 at Meadow Mills Church of the Brethren with Rev. Fred Mauck officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Middletown. She was born on July 30, 1920 a daughter of the late William Edgar and Lucy Hill Cooley in the Valcuse community and was raised on Waverly Farm in Middletown, VA. She was a 1939 graduate of Middletown High School and member of the Meadow Mills Church of the Brethren. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, James Frederick "Pete" Garrett whom she married on October 12, 1942 and her siblings, Edgar Cooley, Stanley Cooley, Dick Cooley, Reese Cooley, Claude Cooley, Emory Cooley, Buddy Cooley, Mamie L Cooley and Goldie L. Hudson. Survivors include her sister, Frances Cullers of Middletown; her beloved children, Patsy Garrett Cooley and husband, Jack, Karen Garrett Legge and husband, Mike, and Sue Garrett Ferguson and her late husband, Wade; her grandchildren, Melissa Legge and Todd Legge and wife, Holly; her great-grandchildren, Garrett Allegra, Brent Allegra, Carson Allegra, Hunter Legge and Morgan "Little Morgie" Legge all of Middletown, VA. Pallbearers will be Wayne Chuck Hoover, Gary Bly, Doug Cornwell, Jerry Clark, Gary Legge, and Eddie Dodson. The family will receive friends at Stover Funeral Home on Thursday evening from 6-8 P.M.
