IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mary Elizabeth
Colt
September 13, 1973 – January 2, 2022
Mary Elizabeth Colt On Sunday, January 2, 2022, Mary Elizabeth Colt a resident of Strasburg, VA was called home to the Lord at the age of 48 at the Winchester Medical Center. A celebration of life for Mary will be held in the late spring for all her family and friends to attend. Details for this event are to come.
Mary was a born in Alexandria, VA on September 13, 1973, as the youngest child to Patricia and Michael (aka Mickey) Basso. She grew up in Woodbridge, VA and was part of the 1991 graduating class at Potomac Senior High School. She moved to Strasburg in 2003 with her husband and three children and recently celebrated 25 years of marriage on September 28, 2021. Mary dedicated 17 years of her life to her service as a 911 dispatcher in Shenandoah County. She helped thousands of people on their worst days and was a true guiding light and loving hand to those who knew her personally. When she wasn't dispatching calls, you could find Mary taking care of her three dogs, several cats, and bird. She could never refuse a good book or dancing without a care when a good song came on the radio. She loved camping with her family in the mountains around her home and sharing a good ghost story around a warm campfire. Her laugh was infectious, and she strived to make the best out of life; always maintaining a positive attitude. She was a loving wife, nurturing mother, precious daughter, and invaluable friend who offered wisdom beyond her years and a warm home to whoever needed it. Mary had a truly special soul whose presence will be missed and remembered by all who knew her. She is preceded in death by her grandparents Anthony and Lillian Basso, and Marvin and Ruby Goad.
In addition to her parents Mary is survived by her husband Gary, her children Brandan, Miranda, and Cameron, her stepson Matthew, her older siblings Lisa, Mike, and Steven, her unborn grandson Jaspen and countless nieces, nephews, and cousins.
