Obituary

Margaret Ann (Workman) Richardson passed away February 17th 2023 in Maurertown, Virginia where she lived with her son John Richardson and his family.

Margaret was the daughter of John and Goldie Workman and was born on September 21st 1931 in Tuskahoma, Oklahoma.  She grew up on a ranch in the Tuskahoma area and attended grade school in Tuskahoma and later attended Catholic school in McAlester, graduating from Hartshorne High School in 1951. She was of Choctaw heritage.  After high school she lived with her parents until 1954 after which she married Billy Fred Richardson of Hartshorne on her birthday, September 21st 1954. Afterward they moved to McAlester where they lived and raised two sons, John William and Benny Fred.

Margaret managed a small arts and crafts shop in North Town where she sold weaving and other Native American crafts. She was an experienced weaver using her loom to craft many beautiful blankets, rugs and shawls, many of which they sold at arts and crafts shows throughout Oklahoma, Arkansas and Missouri. Some of her weavings are located in Native American museums and some were given as a Choctaw tribal gift to the country of Ireland. Later in life she moved with her husband to Virginia to be closer to her son and the grandchildren. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a son, Benny Fred; her brothers, Bob Workman and PJ Workman.

She is survived by her son John and wife Louann; grandsons, PJ and Jacob; great-grandchildren, Wren, Issic and Sylas; sister, Johnny Fite; many nieces and nephews, along with many friends in both Virginia and Oklahoma.

A funeral service for Mrs. Richardson will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 25, 2023 at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home Chapel in McAlester. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Memorial Park in McAlester.
