Obituary

Luther Anderson, 89, of Edinburg, Virginia, passed away on March 22, 2026 at Woodstock Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born on March 26, 1936, in Pike County, Kentucky, to the late Harlan and Vickuna Baker Anderson where he was raised in the hills of Eastern Kentucky. His early years were shaped by hard work and responsibility, spending much of his time outdoors balancing chores and labor with the simple joys of childhood. As a young teenager, he began working in the coal mines, an experience that helped form the strong work ethic he carried throughout his life. He married his loving wife Frances Marie Adkins on January 9, 1954.

Recognizing opportunity beyond his hometown, Luther moved to the Manassas, Virginia area in the early 1960s to pursue a better future. He began his career in plumbing, which marked his first venture into business ownership, and later expanded into new home construction and real estate. Through determination and perseverance, he built a life centered on hard work and providing for his family.

In 1992, Luther accepted Christ as his Savior, a decision that became a cornerstone of his life. He faithfully prayed for his family and friends to come to know the Lord, and he was blessed to see many do so. He was a devoted supporter and member of Virginia Hills Church, attending regularly until his health made it difficult, after which he remained connected by watching services online.

In his later years, Luther found joy in simple pleasures—driving through the countryside to look at homes and land, enjoying breakfast at Hardee's, and most especially, seeing pictures of his great-grandchildren, which brought him his greatest smiles.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Frances Marie Adkins Anderson; and his siblings, Ullia Lee, Noah Anderson, and Franklin D. Anderson.

He is survived by his five children: Raymond Anderson (Patricia), Rita Peters (Johnny), Randall Anderson (Ronda), Regina Cudic (Brandon), and Russell Anderson (Regina). He is also survived by 13 grandchildren: Aaron Anderson, Monica Voss, Miranda Pruitt, Jessica Cernoch, James Anderson, Rachel Gomez, Randa Theis, Tucker Anderson, Ethan Cudic, Amber Cudic, Lukas Anderson, Kaytlin Anderson, and Autumn Anderson.

Luther was further blessed with 21 great-grandchildren: Michael, Matthew, Leighann, Lynndsay, and Lilyanna Voss; Jack, Jonathon, Cadence, and Lincoln Anderson; Alaina and Abigail Pruitt; Summer and Jaxon Cernoch; Felicity, Declan, and Adalee Anderson; Mattias, Caleb, and Eliana Gomez; Joy Anderson; and Charlie Anderson.

He is also survived by his siblings: Ruth Ann Dollinger, Orbina Andrews, Donald Anderson, Billy Anderson, Robert Anderson, and Vickie Anderson.

A funeral service for Mr. Anderson will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 27, 2026, at Virginia Hills Church, Front Royal, VA, with James Randall Anderson officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Luther Anderson will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his unwavering faith, and his deep love for his family. His legacy lives on in the generations he helped build and the lives he touched through his example and devotion.
