LILA EMOGENE BOYER WILLIAMS

NOVEMBER 1, 1937 - AUGUST 10, 2026

LILA EMOGENE BOYER WILLIAMS, age 88, a resident of Woodstock, VA died peacefully on Monday, August 10, 2026.

Lila was born in Fort Valley, VA on November 1, 1937, the daughter of the late Ernest Lee and Nancy Jane Campbell Boyer.

She was one of four siblings. Mrs. Williams grew up on the Boyer family's Glenmont Farms and graduated from Strasburg High School in 1955. She worked in the Washington, DC area for a short period before moving back to Strasburg and marrying James Meredith "Mert" Williams on January 7, 1956. They were married for 65 years until he died in 2021 on their anniversary date. They had two children, Jo Elizabeth in 1956, and Randall Meredith in 1957. Mrs. Williams worked at the data processing company Harris-Intertype in Winchester for several years before joining Rubbermaid Commerial Product's new facility in Winchester in 1968 as a data processing employee. She worked her way up into management of Rubbermaid's information processing group, eventually retiring from Rubbermaid in 1994. Lila and Jim moved from Strasburg to Woodstock around 1987, where they enjoyed a long and happy retired life together.

At nearly 89, Lila stayed young at heart through her endless curiosity and independent spirit. She enjoyed water aerobics and was an avid book reader, participated in many types of crafts, and enjoyed her Longaberger baskets. She embraced technology daily, loving her Facebook connections and her favorite online games, many of which she chose to help keep her mind razor-sharp. She always stayed connected and eager to continue learning, and she frequently fostered gatherings of her family and friends.

Lila was a long-time member of, and devoted volunteer for, the Strasburg United Methodist Church before moving to Woodstock, where she became a member of the Woodstock United Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister Janet Boyer Stultz, brother Ernest Alan Boyer, and her husband James Williams.

Survivors include her sister, Nancy Jean Boyer Bauserman, her daughter Jo Williams, and son Randy Williams.

The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorial contributions to the Woodstock United Methodist Church, 156 S. Muhlenberg Street, Woodstock, VA 22664, or a charity of one's choice.

A graveside service for Mrs. Williams will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at Panorama Memorial Gardens, Strasburg, VA with Rev. Todd Gess officiating. The family will receive friends at Stover Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, from 6-8 p.m.
