John W. Downing, 87 of Strasburg VA, passed away on June 08, 2025.

He was born on August 6, 1937, in Washington DC, to the late Louise and C. Wade Downing. He served in the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1963. Mr. Downing was an avid life member of the National Rifle Association. He also enjoyed living and being on his family farm, as well as hunting and collecting guns.

Mr. Downing is survived by his brother Joseph A. Downing of Strasburg, VA; his nieces and nephew Barbara Downing Klose (David) of Annapolis, MD, Erin Cathleen Downing of Strasburg, VA, Patrick Anthony Downing of Rhoadesville, VA, Karen Downing (Dirk Moore) of Lewes, DE, and Kristine Duran (Tom Dondore) of Lewes, DE; his great nieces and nephews Brian J. Klose of Washington DC, Brandon Duran of Lewes, DE, Joseph A. Alaniz of Strasburg, VA, and Dylan Duran of Lewes, DE.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Robert Downing, as well as his first wife Frances M. Downing and his second wife Doris Virginia Brown Downing.

A celebration of life gathering will be held at Stover Funeral Home on Monday, June 16, 2025, from 6-8 p.m.
