Joe Alden Coffman, age 82, a resident of Strasburg, VA passed away Thursday, December 17, 2020 at his residence.

Services for Mr. Coffman will be conducted privately.

Mr. Coffman was born in Shenandoah County, VA on January 4, 1938 a son of the late Marvin Edward and Pauline Marie Sibert Coffman.  He was the oldest living member of Mt. Olive United Methodist Church.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and worked at Avtex for 27 years then retired from the Army Corp of Engineers.  Mr. Coffman then became a bus driver for the Massanutten Military Academy.  He was a well-known mechanic in the community known for helping his family, friends and neighbors with various mechanical needs.  He enjoyed his tractors, gardening and his many pets over the years and even befriended his farm animals.  Mr. Coffman was fondly known as the Mayor of Mt. Olive by his many friends and neighbors who will miss him dearly. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son Darryl Alden Coffman and a brother, Wayne Coffman.

Survivors include his wife Peggy Ann Coffman of Strasburg, VA; his children Carol Coffman Williams (Tim) of Strasburg, VA and Teresa Coffman Hartman (Scott) of Charlotte, NC; his grandchildren Tyler Williams (Heather), Stephanie Williams and Jackie Hartman; one great-grandchild, Dylan Williams along with one sister, Marsha Coffman Allemong (Dave) of Ft. Mill, SC.

The family suggest that expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorial contributions to Mt. Olive United Methodist Church, 12180 Back Road, Toms Brook, VA 22660.
