Obituary

Joanne Carol Vance, 80, went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at her residence surrounded by her loving family. Joanne was born in Riverton, VA a daughter of the late Russell Howard and Gladys Virginia Rexrode Arbogast. Joanne grew up in Toms Brook, VA and attended Toms Brook High School. She worked for the Aileen, Inc. sewing plant in Strasburg, VA and in 1974 opened Smiley's Restaurant in Strasburg and operated it until it's closing in December of 1999 when she decided she would retire and spend her time taking care of her father with the time he had left. Joanne married Delmar Lee Vance on March 17, 1955 and was happily married for 62 years. She was a member of the Toms Brook United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Choir. Joanne was also a member of the St. Stephens Community Choir for many years. Joanne was a loving daughter, wife and mother who enjoyed taking care of her family. She enjoyed crocheting memories for all of her family and friends. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by four brothers, Junior, Donnie, Pete and Buddy Arbogast. Joanne is survived by her husband Delmar L. Vance of Maurertown, VA; her sister, Brenda G. Murphy (Barry) of Charleston, VA; her daughters, Sherry L. Baughman of Fargo, ND, Barbara J. Dellinger (Dave) of Mt. Jackson, VA, Darlene C. Berndt (Marty) of Maurertown, VA, Donna S. Vance of Woodstock, VA and Debra Morris (Kris) of Middletown, VA; her sons, Dale A. Vance of Maurertown, VA, Tracey S. Vance (Sherry) of Maurertown, VA and Stacey S. Vance (betrothed Laura Savinsky of Woodstock) of Front Royal, VA ; and her four legged companion Cricket. Joanne had 40 grandchildren, 60 great-grandchildren and 21 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, Joanne would want you to donate to your favorite charity in her memory because in life she was a very charitable person. Joanne requested that there be no services for her.
