Obituary

Janice VanGorden, 83, went to be with her Lord and Savior peacefully in her sleep surrounded by family on Monday, December 27, after an eight-year battle with Multiple Myeloma.

A memorial service for Mrs. VanGorden will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Sunday February 27, 2022 at Stover Funeral Home.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Janice worked for many years at the Pentagon for the Department of Defense as an executive assistant, eventually retiring from the Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Navy.  She was an avid reader, loved to paint, read and write poetry, and listen to country music.  She had an amazing collection of dollhouses and spent many hours hand-crafting various miniature items for each one.  She loved cats and always had at least one by her side throughout her life.  She will be missed.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Paul VanGorden; son Scott (Nancy) VanGorden; son Bryan (Carolyn) VanGorden; daughter Julie Alber; grandchildren Josh Alber, Rachel Alber, Daniel VanGorden, Eric (Kathleen) Michael, Wesley Kibler, and James (Kristen) Claudio; sisters Arlene Wilber and Donna (Dixon) Tranum; and five great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her sister, Anita Steidel. The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorial contributions Blue Ridge Hospice https://brhospice.org/donate/ or Restoration Fellowship Church http://www.rfellowship.com/giving.php .
