Mrs. Janice Sonner Midkiff, age 95, passed away on Wednesday, October 20, 2021. She was a loving wife of 69 years to the late Robert C. (Bob) Midkiff.

A graveside service for Mrs. Midkiff will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 14, 2022 at Riverview Cemetery.

Janice was born on November 17, 1925, and grew up in Strasburg, Virginia. She graduated from Strasburg High School in 1942. She was a popular student and held leadership roles in the school throughout her high school years. It was during high school that she met the love of her life, Bob Midkiff.

After graduating from high school and secretarial school, Janice had a long and successful career serving several companies in many capacities, primarily as a bookkeeper and office manager.

Janice had a strong faith, which was instilled in her by both her actual family and church family. Janice grew up in the Strasburg Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and was an active member of many groups within the Church. In 1963, Bob and Janice moved to Richmond. She continued her service to the Church through Bethany Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) as an active member and volunteer.

Janice retired along with Bob in 1986. Together, they became avid travelers and shared many adventures.

Mrs. Midkiff was predeceased by her parents, Elsie Lake Sonner and Harry (Dad) Sonner; and by her husband, Bob Midkiff.

She is survived by her nieces, Teresa Tate of Strasburg, Virginia and Carla Stoner (married to Joseph Stoner) of Virginia Beach, Virginia. She is also survived by Terry's daughter, Shelley Belford and her daughter, Kileigh Reilinger; and by Carla's son, Jackson Stoner. She was beloved by all of her nieces and nephews.

A service in celebration of her life will be held at the Bethany Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), located at 5400 Forest Hill Avenue in Richmond, Virginia, 23225 on Thursday, October 28, 2021 at 2 p.m. A reception will be held at the Church following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in memory of Janice Midkiff be made to the same Church.
