Janet Lorraine Sturgeon, age 87, from Edinburg, Va., passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on January 13, 2022.
A funeral service for Mrs. Sturgeon will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 21, 2022, at the Strasburg Presbyterian Church with Rev. David Howard officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery next to the Church.
Janet was born in Strasburg, Va. on October 6, 1934. She was the daughter of the late Raymond Lee Polk and the late Elizabeth Katherine Dyke Lam. Janet worked for many years at Blue Ridge Pediatrics in Manassas, Va. and was a devoted and loving homemaker. She was active in her church's Women of the Church, and served alongside her husband as Youth Directors of the "Christian Critters" at Strasburg Presbyterian Church. She loved and enjoyed spending time with her family and particularly enjoyed square dancing, ceramics, and travelling.
Janet was preceded in death by her brothers Junior F. (Sammy) Polk, William E. (Woody) Polk, Ray L. Polk, and sister Catherine Marie Kline.
She is survived by her husband, of over 69 years, Virgil Sturgeon; children Lonny Sturgeon and wife Amanda of Greensboro, N.C., and Trina Sturgeon Corbin and husband Michael of Staunton, Va. Her grandchildren include Robert B. Johnston Jr. of Cedar Key, Fla., Kyle Sturgeon of Charlottesville, Va., Rose McLaughlin of Hardy, Va., Megan Holder of Greensboro, N.C., and Lindsey Werner of Staunton Va., Great Grandchildren include Bobby Johnston, Micaiah Johnston, Henry Johnston, Nina Johnston, Kayla Bennett, Emma Bennett, Ahleina McLaughlin, Werner McLaughlin, Ethan Holder, William Kellison, Garrett Holder, and Benjamin Sturgeon, and a Great-Great Grandchild, Edward Johnston; She is also survived by 2 sisters – Dorothy Sites of Hagerstown Maryland and Mildred Funkhouser of Strasburg Va., and 2 brothers Jerry Polk of Orlando Fla. and Richard Lam of Fort Valley Va.
The family will receive friends at Stover Funeral Home on Thursday January 20, 2022, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
