IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James "Jimbo"
Stout
June 28, 1961 – February 25, 2025
SERVICE TIME CHANGE
Saturday, March 8, 2025 at 12:00 NOON
James Earl "Jimbo" Stout, 63, of Star Tannery, VA passed away Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at his home in Star Tannery.
Jimbo was born in Woodstock, VA on June 28, 1961, a son of the late George Byron and Beatrice Locklear Stout. He was a graduate of Central High School and was fondly known for his BBQ chicken and gizzards. Jimbo loved hunting, trout fishing, and enjoyed ringing the bell during the holidays for the Salvation Army. He became a fixture in the youth football community, having devoted over 34 years to Strasburg Midget League Football as well as coaching for Shenandoah County Parks and Rec. He had a personality that was bigger than life. Although he took a smaller role in coaching in the past few seasons, you could always find him at the grill on Saturday mornings cooking his famous breakfast, to include "Jimbo's Bang Bang". Jimbo's dedication to the youth of the Strasburg area and the county as a whole is shown in the hundreds of kids who grew up playing football, baseball, and basketball and learning valuable life lessons through the game. Jimbo always had a smile on his face and a good story to tell, no matter what the situation. Jimbo will forever be missed by everyone who knew him. His kindness and energy touched so many. Jimbo was a great man, a great coach, and someone who cared deeply for the youth of the valley. His passing has created a huge void in the community that may never be filled.
Survivors include his loving wife Shelley Brill Stout of Star Tannery; his children Zack Hockman (Melissa) of Woodstock, Joe Stout (Robin) of Strasburg; his grandchildren Treasure Hockman, Kristen Hockman, Addison Hockman, Cheyanne Stout, and Dakota Stout; his siblings Barbara Wine, George Stout, Jr. (Cathy), Mike Stout (Sharon), and Tony Stout (Sophie); several nieces, nephews, cousins and too many friends to count.
A funeral service for Jimbo will be held at 12:00 noon, Saturday, March 8, 2025, at the Strasburg High School new gymnasium with Pastor Tim Miller officiating. Jimbo will be laid to rest privately. Guests are encouraged to wear Strasburg purple for the service. Honorary pallbearers will be Dave Bunch, Alan Bunch, Oscar Bunch, Jeff Campbell, AJ Judy, Brent Judy, Ryan Judy, Gary Ponn, Frankie Conner, and Scott Smoot.
The family will receive friends at Stover Funeral Home on Friday, March 7, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. You may also stop by Stover Funeral Home during regular business hours to pay your respects and sign the register book.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorial contributions to Strasburg Midget League Football, P.O. Box 185, Strasburg, VA 22657.
You may submit your condolences to the family online at www.stoverfuneralhome.com.
