Obituary

James Elmer "Jimmy" Troxell 85 of Strasburg, VA passed away Monday, September 12, 2022, at his residence.

A funeral service for Jimmy will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 16, 2022, at Strasburg United Methodist Church with Rev. John Haynes, Jr. officiating.  Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery with full military honors presented by the Shenandoah American Legion Post 77, Strasburg, VA.

Jimmy was born in Staunton, Virginia on July 8, 1937, a son of the late James Sylvester and Edna Catherine Pryor Troxell.  He was a member of the Strasburg United Methodist Church and a Veteran of the U.S. Navy. After leaving the military Jimmy went into business with his father in the Nash building opening Strasburg Rambler-Troxell & Son Body Shop.  He later partnered with his brother Jackie and opened Jim & Jack Auto Sales.  It was in 1978 when he and his wife bought the Beef Hut Restaurant and renamed it Hi Neighbor.  In 1994 they opened the current Fox's Pizza that is still today ran by his daughter Cathy.  Jimmy loved dealing in real estate and old cars.  He dearly loved spending time with his family and friends at his cabin in Petersburg, WV.  Jimmy was a member of the Shenandoah American Legion Post 77 where he served as a former Commander, member of the Strasburg Moose, Strasburg Vol. Rescue Squad, a charter member of the Strasburg Eagles, member of the Spurmont Masonic Lodge No 98 AF & AM, and the Blue Ridge Shrines.  Jimmy had a great sense of humor, was known for his one-line jokes, and will be greatly missed by his family, the community, and a host of friends.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter Robyn Rae Troxell Pedersen, and siblings Jackie Troxell, Helen Mitchell, Shirley Giles, and Linda Drummond.

Survivors include his loving wife of 67 years Dixie Miller Troxell of Strasburg, VA; his beloved children James Ricci Troxell (Erica), Cathy Troxell Orndorff (Greg), Cary W. Troxell (Rebecca) and Robyn Alan Pedersen all of Strasburg, VA; his grandchildren Derrick Troxell, Cara Starkey, Matthew Troxell, J.R. Anderson, Kala Beattie, Trae Walker, Jimmy Lee Troxell, and Levi Troxell; 13 great-grandchildren; his siblings Boyd "Peanut" Troxell, Jerry Troxell, and Jean Reil along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Pallbearers will be J.R. Anderson, Derrick Troxell, Matthew Troxell, Jimmy Lee Troxell, Levi Troxell, Trae Walker, Robyn Pedersen, and Jason Gutierrez.

The family will receive friends at Stover Funeral Home on Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m.
