IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Geraldine Marie
(Gheen) Fendley
October 8, 1948 – December 21, 2025
Geraldine Marie Gheen Fendley, wife of Samuel Carl Fendley, 77, of Elkton, VA went home to be with Jesus on December 21, 2025, at her residence.
Mrs. Fendley was born in Alexandria, VA on October 8, 1948, a daughter of the late Rev. James Gheen and Mae Ruth McNabb Gheen. Mrs. Fendley married her sweetheart, Samuel Carl Fendley of Dallas, TX, ten days after graduating from Osbourn High School in Manassas, VA. In addition to an evangelistic ministry across many states, they also pastored in Carlisle, PA, Strasburg, VA, Front Royal, VA, Mt. Olive, VA, and Hagerstown, MD, before retiring due to declining health and moving to live with her daughter and son-in-law in Weyers Cave, VA. After their years of traveling to evangelize, Mrs. Fendley drove a school bus for Warren County Schools for 17 years. She also substituted in the school cafeterias and volunteered to help in the office whenever she could. After raising her family, she attended Lord Fairfax Community College and graduated 4.0 average. She worked a variety of other jobs later in life ranging from church secretary and being a hostess. During her working career she received many awards, such as best bus driver of the month, and many more. However, the greatest reward she has ever received was hearing her Savior say, "Well done, my child!" In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald E. Gheen and Larry A. Gheen, brother-in-law William Howard Peregory, and sister-in-law Frances Schultz.
Survivors include her husband Samuel Carl Fendley of Weyers Cave, VA; her children, Dorinda Ruth Sponaugle of Elkton, VA, Trina Marie Miller and husband Ernie of Iberia, MO, and Samuel "Carl" Fendley, Jr. and wife Hillary of Martinsburg, WV; her grandchildren, Stephen Sponaugle II and wife Katelyn, of Shenandoah, VA, Samuel Sponaugle and his wife Hannah of Martinsburg, WV, Elizabeth Baker and husband Joshua of Iberia, MO, James Miller and wife Yesica, of Dixon, MO, Allison Hensell of Middleton, VA, and Jerry Tylor Fendley of Lexington, NC; her eight great-grandchildren Ezra, Isaiah, Lucas, Jayce, David, Grant, Isabella, and Madison.

Holliday St., Strasburg, VA 22657 with Pastor Brent Gabbard and Rev. Paul Markee officiating. Burial will follow at Panorama Memorial Gardens in Strasburg, VA.
