Obituary

Floyd "Grubbs" Ramey, 87 of Front Royal, Virginia formerly of Strasburg, Virginia died Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at Warren County Memorial Hospital. A memorial service for Mr. Ramey will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, July 14, 2012 at Stover Memorial Chapel with Rev. Geneal Wilson officiating. Full military honors will be conducted by Shenandoah American Legion Post 77, Strasburg. Mr. Ramey was born on February 14, 1925 in Warren County, Virginia, son of James Edward Ramey, Sr. and Annie Nettie Robinson Ramey. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a TEC 5 and served in the Central European Campaign. He also served in the 6th Coastal Artillery Unit in San Francisco, California. Mr. Ramey was a charter member of the Strasburg Volunteer Rescue Squad. Grubbs previously served as Captain and held other leadership positions throughout his over forty years of service to the organization. He also served in the Strasburg Fire Department for over 35 years. Mr. Ramer was preceded in death by two daughters, Wanda and an unnamed infant. He was also preceded in death by fourth brothers, William Samuel "Sam" Ramey, Richard "Byrd" Ramey, Randolph "Tinker" Robinson and James Edward "Ab" Ramey and his four sisters, Violet Mauck, Angie Thompson, Della Ramey and Stella Ramey. Surviving are his daughter, Carla Ramey Stoner and her husband Joseph Anthony Stoner and his grandson, Jackson Alexander Stoner. His also survived by his long time companion, Ophelia Hall Holliday and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at Stover Funeral Home on Friday evening from 7:00 - 9:00 P.M.
