Eva Mae Artz Pifer, 96 of Strasburg passed away Saturday July 1, 2023, at Consulate Health Care in Woodstock, VA.
A memorial service for Eva Pifer will be held Saturday, September 30, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Strasburg Christian Church with Reverend Rob Lovett officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
Eva Mae was born in Strasburg, VA on May 25, 1927, the eldest daughter of the late Maynard Emory and Ruth Marston Artz. After graduation from Strasburg High School, she started her 23-year career in banking at the Massanutten Bank and First National Bank. Eva Mae married her late husband Joseph Edwin Pifer, Jr., who for forty-two years owned and operated the Newsstand in Strasburg and later Pifer's Gift and Jewelry Shop. She was a life member of the Strasburg Christian Church where she served as Sunday school teacher, deacon, trustee and so much more. She was a life member of 66 years of the Strasburg American Legion Post #77 Ladies Auxiliary, past member of Women of the Moose #1319, past member of the Strasburg Businesswomen and Chamber of Commerce. Eva Mae served as the Secretary-Treasurer of Riverview Cemetery for 32 years. Over the years, Eva Mae enjoyed all sports, especially watching golf and the Washington Commanders on TV. She bowled, fished, water skied and loved going deer hunting with her dad and first husband. Her biggest goal in life was visiting people, especially shut-ins and always helping others. She always said, "Smile" it could be contagious!
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Edwin Pifer, Jr., sister Peggy Lee Artz Pappas, brother-in-law Mike Pappas, nephew John Pappas; sister-n-laws Ellen Pifer Mossberg and Kathleen Pifer, brother-in-law Marshall Pifer; father and mother-in-law Edwin and Irene Pifer.
Survivors include her sister Jerry Ann Stinson (Gary) of Strasburg. "Aunt Mae" was the proud aunt to her nieces, Belinda Palmer, Cheri Wilt, and Kari Keller, her nephews Terry Stinson and Karl Mossberg. She had numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews and had all their pictures displayed on her fridge. She truly loved and cherished all her family and many friends and every child she met.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the American Legion Post 77 Ladies Auxiliary.
The family extends their appreciation to Consulate Health Care and Sentara Hospice for their excellent care and compassion.
