Emmett David "Em" Umberger 66 of Strasburg, VA passed away Sunday, December 12, 2021, at Winchester Medical Center.

A Celebration of Life service for Mr. Umberger will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 15, 2022, at the Virginia Hills Church in Front Royal, VA with Pastor Eric Reploeg officiating.  The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.

Mr. Umberger was born in Pulaski, Virginia on February 1, 1955, a son of the late Emmett Sherrell "Bud" and Helen Evaleen Morris Umberger.  He was a member of Virginia Hills Church and worked as a tool and die maker for Fabritek Company Winchester Tool.

He was a man who loved the Lord and his church, enjoyed hunting, gunsmithing, and the outdoors.  Emmett was one of a kind as both a father, husband, friend, and co-worker. He never met a stranger and was a light to the community and all of those around him.  He was giving and generous in ways that inspired and an example of how to follow God each and every day.  He could instantly connect with almost anyone and was amazing in his ability to get to know people and make them feel comfortable even in the most difficult situations.

Survivors include his wife Phyllis Umberger of Strasburg, VA; his children Dustin Thomas Umberger (Winnie Chau) of Foster City, CA, Cassie Lauren McIntyre (Dan) of Yorba Linda, CA, Nathan Stuart Umberger (Ashley) of Middletown, DE, and Philip Andrew Ramsey (Jess) of Fairborn, OH; his grandchildren Logan, Bette, Cliff, and Drew; his siblings Marvin Sherriel "Bucky" Clark, Jimmy Morehead, Donald Deal "Skip" Hill, and Terry Umberger.

The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorial contributions to Virginia Hills Church, 737 Rockland Road, Front Royal, VA 22630, or Building Faith Together at Mt. Hebron Church, 2582 Mt. Hebron Road, Strasburg, VA 22657.
