E. L. "Pat" Patterson passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at his residence. A funeral service for Mr. Patterson will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 29, 2018 at Stover Memorial Chapel. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until the time of the service. Everyone is invited to join the family, immediately following the service, for a time of food and fellowship at the Shenandoah American Legion Post 77, Strasburg, VA. Ellis was born on May 24, 1939 at the family home in Hampshire County, West Virginia, a son of the late James William and Mary Lucille Kerns Patterson. He was a 1958 graduate of James Wood High School having attended every class reunion including his 60th reunion held last month. Mr. Patterson was a U.S. Army veteran and a retired Real Estate Broker. He was an avid reader, always with a book or magazine in hand. He loved to talk about history and debate politics. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Katherine Carroll and a brother Charles Patterson. Survivors include his wife, Diana Boyer Patterson; his sons, Michael Ellis Patterson, COLONEL Ret. and his wife Ellen of Falls Church, VA and Steven Lee Patterson, MAJOR Ret. and his wife Krista of Sykesville, MD; his treasured grandsons, John Ellis and Julian Lee. Both sons and grandsons carry his name, never to be forgotten. He is also survived by his brother and friend, Ray W. Patterson and wife Libby of Reliance, VA along with several special nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
