Derrick Bruce Thompson (June 17, 1981 – May 4, 2026)
Derrick Bruce Thompson, 44, died at his home in Stephens City, Virginia, on May 4th. He was the beloved husband of Carrie Thompson.
Born on June 17, 1981, in Baltimore, he was the son of Richard and Linda Thompson of Monrovia, Maryland. Derrick grew up in Monrovia and was in the first graduating class at Urbana High School, the Class of 1999. He was a percussionist in the first Urbana High School band and played drums at musical productions and for the Spires Brass Band in Frederick, Maryland. Derrick graduated from Shenandoah University in 2003 and later earned an MBA degree from West Virginia University. He was employed by the Sherwin-Williams corporation.
In addition to his wife and parents, Derrick is survived by his children, Grace Helen Thompson, Faith Judith Thompson, and Jeremiah Bruce Thompson. Survivors also include his sisters, Melanie Brevis (husband Zachariah) of Grand Rapids, Michigan; Crystal Thompson, of Washington, D.C.; and Valerie Roebuck (husband Brandon), of New Windsor, Maryland; a sister-in-law, Michelle Harty (husband John), of Ithaca, New York; and his parents-in-law, Sammy and Judy Rogers of Stephens City. He is also survived by nephews Kirby and Eamon Roebuck, Eugene and Dalton Harty; and a niece, Hadley Brevis. He was predeceased by nephew Josiah Brevis.
Derrick served as a Cub Scout leader and played drums in a praise band at the New Life Christian Church in Winchester.
A celebration of Derrick’s life will be held on Monday, May 18, 2026, at 6:00 p.m., at the Stover Funeral Home, 177 North Holliday Street, Strasburg, Virginia. Visitation with the family will begin at 5:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to a fund for Derrick’s children’s education at the following Venmo account: @Carolyn-Thompson-191.
