Obituary

Carolyn Hinzman Ramsay 86 of Strasburg, VA, passed peacefully on December 1, 2021, at her home in Strasburg, VA with family and friends by her side.

She was born December 12, 1934, in Weston, WV as the eldest of 4 children to Geraldine Virginia (Furman) Hinzman and Ralph Bailey Hinzman.  Carolyn graduated from Weston High School Class of 1952. Following graduation, she received her degree in laboratory technology and spent most of her professional career working for Group Health Association in the DC area. In June 1956, she married Ronald Ray Ramsay of Clarksburg, WV to whom she was married for 63 years until his death in 2019. Together they raised 5 children in Arlington, VA where she was active in a variety of civic organizations including Boy Scouts of America, International Order of Job's Daughters and Order of Eastern Star. Her faith was always important and in her later years was a member of First Baptist Church of Front Royal, VA. Following her retirement, she blended her love of family with assisting in the research of genealogy where her tremendous memory and attention to detail allowed her to contribute to tracing history for both sides of her family. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three of her sons, Kent Steven Ramsay (1963), Kevin Scott Ramsay (2006) and Brian Keith Ramsay (2021).

She is survived by brothers Dean Hinzman (and wife Janice) of Wyoming, DE and Ralph Hinzman, Jr. (and wife Twyla) of Smyrna, DE, sister Doris Broscius of Barrackville, WV, her oldest son Dean Ramsay (and wife Jeanne) of Vero Beach, FL, her daughter Paula Ramsay Taylor (and husband Jet) of Gasburg, VA and her daughter-in-law Holley Ramsay of Winchester, VA along with seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
