Barbara Finnerty Stickley passed away peacefully on September 6, 2026, at Warren Memorial Hospital in Front Royal VA. She was 93 and resided in the Oranda community of Strasburg VA. She was loved by many and will be missed.

Barbara was born in Winchester Virginia on January 18, 1933, daughter of the late John and Catherine Grubb. She attended St. Paul Lutheran Church where she was baptized and confirmed. She had a beautiful singing voice and sang in the church choir. Barbara graduated from Strasburg High School. During High school she was employed by the Home Movie Theater where she met her first husband Vincent (Paul) Louis Finnerty, who was visiting a friend while taking a break from the rodeo circuit. They were married in 1952.

For a girl who had never left Strasburg, being married to a horse trainer led to a life full of many changes and many moves. She quickly learned to embrace change and adapt to new environments. Two years following the death of Vincent (Paul) she attended her Strasburg Class reunion where she reconnected with a fellow classmate Ronald Stickley who had also lost his wife. They became inseparable and married in 1986. Sadly, Ronald passed in 2010.

During her later years playing cards, spending time with family and enjoying her morning coffee while watching hummingbirds and cardinals brought her joy. She also loved attending church and when that was no longer possible loved her visits from Pastor Chris.

Barbara is survived by five children Catherine Rutherford (Michael), Barbara Finnerty Brinser, Michael Finnerty (Christi), Robin Finnerty Riner, and Julie Brakowiecki (Joe); thirteen grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren. She is also survived by her loving sisters-in-law Judy Grubb and sister Mary Kenneth Finnerty along with a boat load of nieces and nephews.

She was met in Heaven by her parents John and Catherine Grubb, her brother Jack Grubb and husbands Paul and Ronald along with many, many, many Finnerty’s.

A Celebration of Life for Barbara will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 10, 2026, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Strasburg, VA with pastor Chris Flohr officiating.

The family suggests that expression of sympathy be in the form of memorial contributions to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 156 W. Washington St., Strasburg, VA 22657.
