Amos Channing Purvis, Jr. 72 of Strasburg, VA passed away Tuesday, May 24, 2022, at his residence.

A graveside service for Mr. Purvis will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 4, 2022 at Riverview Cemetery.  Full military honors will be conducted by the Shenandoah American Legion Post 77, Strasburg, VA.

Amos was born in Woodstock, VA on July 13, 1949, a son of the late Amos Channing and Calla Mae Stockner Purvis.  Mr. Purvis retired from the U. S. Navy and then retired from working with the Federal Government.  Amos was a member of the Shenandoah American Legion Post 77 for over 50 years.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son and a brother Jacob Purvis.

Survivors include his wife Alta Ritenour Purvis of Strasburg, VA; his son Jonathan Purvis (Vanessa) of Jacksonville, FL; his grandchildren Elizabeth Purvis and Aidan Purvis; his sister Freddie Kay Wilkins; his nephew Will Wilkins and niece Shannon Wilkins.

Memorials may be made to the Shenandoah County Animal Shelter, 268 Landfill Road, Edinburg, VA 22824, or a charity of one's choice.
