William J. “Mike” Herz, 83, a longtime resident of Springfield, Virginia, and formerly of Baltimore, Maryland, passed away peacefully July 3, 2019.
Mike had a great love of life and family. When not working in the printing industry or real estate business, he enjoyed going to Mass and serving as a Eucharistic Minister, walking his dogs, fishing and crabbing. He had a lifelong love of dancing and Frank Sinatra. He was a member of Saint James Catholic Church in Charles Town, WV and the Charles Town Lion’s Club. While living in Springfield, he was a founding member of Saint Raymond of Penafort Catholic Church.
Mike was born March 13, 1936, and was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years Aletha “Lee” Herz and brother Albert Herz. He is survived by his three children Elizabeth Via and husband David of Charles Town, WV, Valerie Smith and husband Richard of Oakton, VA, and Michael Herz and wife Ellen of Springfield, VA, as well as six grandchildren Brian Andress (Courtney) of Severna Park, MD, Meghan Norquist (David) of Fairfax, VA, Denise Via of Charles Town, WV, Allison Smith of Arlington, VA, Dorothy Smith of Oakton, VA, and John Herz of Springfield, VA.
Friends and family may pay their respects on Monday, July 8th at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, 9970 Vale Road, Vienna, Virginia. Visitation begins at 11 am, Funeral Mass is scheduled for 12 noon with interment immediately following.
A celebration of life luncheon will be held following the Interment in St. Mark’s Cassidy Activity Center.
