Roy A. “Junior” Pangle

Roy Arthur “Junior” Pangle, age 90, of Strasburg passed away Friday, June 23, 2017 at Winchester Medical Center.

A funeral service will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 29th at Strasburg United Methodist Church with Rev. John E. Haynes, Jr. and Rev. William E. Erbach officiating. Burial will follow in Lebanon Church Cemetery with military honors by Shenandoah American Legion Post No. 77.

Mr. Pangle was born April 11, 1927 on Capon Road, Strasburg, a son of the late James Arthur and Zelda Belle Beeler Pangle. He attended church and school in Strasburg. He joined the United States Marine Corp. on December 13, 1944 where he made corporal. He served in World War II, the 3rd Marine Division, 3rd Battalion as a rifle marksman. He served in Guam and North China and was honorably discharged on September 9, 1947. He returned to Strasburg and married his beloved wife, Margaret Ann Rennie Pangle on July 6, 1954 in Frederick, Maryland and have been married 62 years. Mr. Pangle worked as a union carpenter for almost 40 years and retired in 1989. He continued as a wood craftsman up until his death. Mr. Pangle was known in later years for selling eggs and driving his blue Chevy truck with his cane hanging on the side. He was extremely proud of his family heritage and shared it with anyone who would listen. He was a true landmark in the Strasburg community for over 90 years and will be missed dearly.

Surviving with his wife, are two sons, Morgan O. Pangle and wife Sharon and Dale A. Pangle; three daughters, Beverly D. Anderson, Cynthia E. Grant and Alesia “Ann” Miller, all of Strasburg; fifteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his siblings, Leonard, Lewis, Fred, Frank, Earl, Lorraine Bell, Ruth Beeler, Curtis “Pat”, Teddy, Guy, Beulah Maples and Jack.

Pallbearers will be Ralph Wheeler, James “Willy” Pangle, Pete Robinson, Clyde Pangle, Douglas Hulver, Wayne Moss and Dicky Sandy.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ross Pangle, Marlon Anderson, Darrell Renner, Chad Pangle, Travis Pangle, Garron Hodson, Jairus Grant, Cody Keller, Eric Hockman, Renee Williams, Christie Renner, Laura Hockman, Tess Pangle and Brooke Pangle.

The family will receive friends at Stover Funeral Home, 177 N. Holliday St., Strasburg on Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
